POST PRODUCTION FOR MOVING IMAGE

Gafas amarillas (feature film)
(late 2018)

Dialogue editing

Ecuadorian filmmaker Ivan Mora Manzano shot his latest feature, Gafas Amarillas, in Quito. During the time for post production, I was called up by Juan José Luzuriaga to take care of the dialogue, while he managed the supervision, design and mix for this film.

It was and intensive and quite rewarding job. I dealt with multiple microphones demanding and detailed project organization. Also, I had fun working and reworking lines which needed patching from different takes. The most challenging part was to deal with scenes involving circular-dolly movements on an old creaking wooden floor. Heavy RX usage and surgical-like editing was need, and it felt so good to work in detail like this.

The film has not premiered yet, but I hope we get back to theaters soon. I can't wait to hear and see the final result.

Serpent in the bottle (feature film)
(2017)

Dialogue editing, sound design and mixing

After the film's producer tested us with the trailer for this movie, we were given the whole project to work on.
A small group of recent graduates from UDLA's Film School and myself were given the huge challenge to restructure this film through image and sound.
Radical proposals brought the film back to life from the editing room (Nicole Moscoso, Heliana Obregón) to color-grading (Alberto Aguinaga). Sound-wise designs were made to support the inner self of the troubled protagonist, and later on Dinah Argüello and I faced some heavy work restoring dialogue. At the end of the day, this work plus editing and mixing was received with much positiveness by the director and producers.

Serpent in the Bottle was written and directed by Emmett McKinley, starring Luke Edwards, John Diehl, Kimberly Laferriere and Michael Madsen. It was produced by Robert Galarza and Rich Henrich.

Sound editing, design and mixing

This movie was entirely shot in the US and was later on in search for new editing and postproduction work.
The whole process was done by a group of young ecuadorian filmmakers, who where given the task of re-structuring the material and finishing the trailer as a test before tackling the whole film.

We passed the test.

La industrial
(2017)

Sound recording, editing, design and mixing

La industrial is a contemporary dance video project, which was created based on corporal memories (smell, textures, sounds, movements and feelings) of 2 ex-workers of an ecuadorian textile factory.

Designing sound for this interdisciplinary work meant exploring the machines of the abandoned place (now a museum) in search of expressive sounds. Many metal pieces and long-forgotten devices where documented, some from the inside and others from the outside, using unusual microphone placements. In some cases textures great sounds happened when hitting certain areas of the machines (with various materials: sticks, mallets, fists, etc) while others where found activating the original mechanisms by hand.
Later on, the recordings where edited and designed to relate to the music and support the story on the video-choreography.

This project by researcher María Vargas was one the recipients of the Ecuadorian Culture and Heritage Department grants for the Arts.

UpdateLa industrial has won as Best National Videodance at FIVM 2019 (International Videodance Festival) in Colombia.
