Bio

Gabriela Yánez
Quito, Ecuador
Born in Quito in 1989.
An early interest in music, sound and technology lead me to get involved with the combination of these three.
I got a BA Music Production and Sound in 2011, and at the same time I started designing sound for an internacional independent video game developer.
Later on I was awarded a scholarship to pursue posgraduate studies at the Edinburgh College of Art (The University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom), graduating with an MSc Sound Design in August 2015.
During my time in Edinburgh, my growing interest for sound was concentrated in the area of post production for visual media. In this area, my work in Veronika Koubová's Lemuria was awarded with the BAFTA Scotland New Talent in 2016. Also, while still in Edinburgh, a particular appeal towards sound installation works and new media was discovered and explored.
Currently, I'm based on Quito (Ecuador) working on local and foreign independent productions. Also, I work as a full-time professor at Universidad de las Américas Film School and over the summer I take care of traffic coordination for the FICQ film festival.
